For immediate release: 31 March 2020

Older people's charity, Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale, continues its long-standing commitment to supporting vulnerable and isolated older people living in our communities amidst the coronavirus outbreak.

Money Saving Expert, Martin Lewis pledged £1 million to be made available to fund urgent small charity coronavirus poverty relief for which the charity immediately applied but additional funding is needed.  As this local charity works hard to reach out not only to the 1000 plus vulnerable older people on its database, it also seeks to support the many more who are now making contact every day asking for support. To do so it is vital to secure much-needed funds.

“It’s really positive that substantial amounts are being pledged to large national charities at this difficult time – all of which are doing great work. At Age Connects Cardiff & the Vale, we are becoming inundated with requests from the hundreds of vulnerable older people who we support on a daily basis. We are also receiving new requests from housebound and/or self-isolating older people who may not have access to internet shopping or family and friends to help and need our support getting in essential supplies” explains Jeff Hawkins, the charity CEO.

“As a small, local charity with limited funds, our resources are under huge strain and our infrastructure at risk We are therefore urging individuals and businesses to help us continue our vital work by making a donation so that pressure on our charity infrastructure will not weigh us down at a time when we are needed so much”.
