This page is dedicated to the memory of our past charity Chair, Stuart Young, who passed away on the 12th August 2026 following his battle with cancer.
Stuart was a very special part of Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale and gave so much of his time, commitment and support to our charity over many years.
Those of us who had the privilege of knowing and working with Stuart will remember not only the contribution he made as our Chair, but the person he was – kind, supportive and someone who genuinely cared about Age Connects and the people we are here to support.
On behalf of everyone at Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale - our Trustees, staff and volunteers - we send our love and deepest condolences to Stuart’s wife, family and all those who loved him.
Thank you, Stuart, for everything you gave to Age Connects. You will be missed.

Here we share some of our fondest memories of Stuart and the legacy he left at Age Connect Cardiff and the Vale...
Rosemary Counsell, Community Liaison Officer, Age Connects.
"I knew Stuart for over 40 years and worked with him in Social Services long before his time with Age Connects. I especially remember one occasion when Stuart came to help us in our office in The Parade. A very distressed service user was outside throwing stones at our window and hammering on the door with a large slab of concrete. We were waiting for the police, and he was the only member of the management team at that time who came to help us. I really respected him for that. I am thinking of his family at this sad time. He will be much missed.”
Maxine Johnson, CEO, Age Connects
“Stuart was such a passionate Chair of Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale. He genuinely cared about the older people we support and always wanted them to be at the heart of everything the charity did. Our vision and mission really mattered to him, and we are forever grateful for everything he gave to the charity.
But for me personally, Stuart was so much more than our Chair. He was wise, incredibly kind and supportive, and had such a wonderful personality and an infectious sense of humour. He had a way of making everything feel that little bit lighter and easier, even when we were dealing with some really difficult things.
I always looked forward to our meetings. Of course, we talked about the serious stuff and everything happening within the charity, but we would also put the world to rights and there was always laughter along the way. He had that wonderful twinkle in his eye that I will always remember.
Stuart was also incredibly brave throughout his battle with cancer. One memory that will always stay with me is our Board meeting in May. Despite everything he was going through, Stuart was determined to be there and he made it to that meeting. We were all in awe of him that day. It showed the courage and determination of the man we had all come to know and care about so much.
Stuart sadly passed away on 12th August 2026 and he will be so very missed. I feel incredibly fortunate that I had the opportunity to know him, work alongside him and learn from him.
Thank you, Stuart, for everything you gave to Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale, for always believing in what we do, and, from me personally, for your guidance, kindness, laughter and friendship. I will always be grateful that our paths crossed.”
